Base Rate Change Impact

Almost every loan in Nepal floats on the bank's base rate, which is republished monthly. Move the slider to see what a rise or fall in base rate does to your EMI and to the total you pay over the loan.

Frequently asked questions

What is the base rate?+

The minimum lending rate a bank publishes each month, built from its cost of funds, operating cost and a return on assets. Your loan rate is base rate plus a product premium.

How often does my rate change?+

Banks in Nepal typically reset floating rates quarterly using the latest published base rate. Your EMI is recalculated on the outstanding balance and remaining tenure.

Can I lock a fixed rate?+

Some banks offer fixed rates for the first few years, usually at a premium over the floating rate. After the fixed period the loan reverts to floating.
